Quintus Horatius Flaccus (8 December 65 BC – 27 November 8 BC), known in the English-speaking world as Horace, was the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of Augustus. The rhetorician Quintillian regarded his Odes as almost the only Latin lyrics worth reading, justifying his estimate with the words: "He can be lofty sometimes, yet he is also full of charm and grace, versatile in his figures, and felicitously daring in his choice of words."
Horace also crafted elegant hexameter verses (Sermones and Epistles) and scurrilous iambic poetry (Epodes). The hexameters are playful and yet serious works, leading the ancient satirist Persius to comment: "as his friend laughs, Horace slyly puts his finger on his every fault; once let in, he plays about the heartstrings". Some of his iambic poetry, however, can seem wantonly repulsive to modern audiences.
His career coincided with Rome's momentous change from Republic to Empire. An officer in the republican army that was crushed at the Battle of Philippi in 42 BC, he was befriended by Octavian's right-hand man in civil affairs, Maecenas, and became something of a spokesman for the new regime. For some commentators, his association with the regime was a delicate balance in which he maintained a strong measure of independence (he was "a master of the graceful sidestep") but for others he was, in John Dryden's phrase, "a well-mannered court slave".
Peter Lorre (26 June 1904 – 23 March 1964) was an Austrian-American actor frequently typecast as a sinister foreigner.
He caused an international sensation with his portrayal of a serial killer who preys on little girls in the German film M (1931). Later he became a popular featured player in Hollywood crime films and mysteries, in particular with Humphrey Bogart and Sydney Greenstreet, and as the star of the successful Mr. Moto detective series.
Lorre was born László Löwenstein on 26 June 1904, as the first child of Jewish couple Alajos Löwenstein and Elvira Freischberger, in the Austrian-Hungarian town of Ružomberok in present-day Slovakia, then known by its Hungarian name Rózsahegy. His parents had recently moved there, following his father's appointment as chief bookkeeper at a local textile mill. Beside working as a bookkeeper, Alajos Löwenstein also served as a lieutenant in the Austrian army reserve, which meant that he was often away on military manoeuvres. When Lorre was four years old, his mother died, probably of food poisoning, leaving Alajos with three very young sons, the youngest only a couple of months old. He soon remarried, to his wife's best friend, Melanie Klein, with whom he had two more children. However, Lorre and his stepmother never got on, and this coloured his childhood memories.
Horace Silver (born September 2, 1928), born Horace Ward Martin Tavares Silva in Norwalk, Connecticut, is an American jazz pianist and composer.
Silver is known for his distinctive humorous and funky playing style and for his pioneering compositional contributions to hard bop. He was influenced by a wide range of musical styles, notably gospel music, African music, and Latin American music and sometimes ventured into the soul jazz genre.
His father, who was known as John Tavares Silva, was from the island of Maio in Cape Verde. His mother was born in New Canaan, Connecticut, and was of Irish-African descent.
Silver began his career as a tenor saxophonist but later switched to piano. His tenor saxophone playing was highly influenced by Lester Young, and his piano style by Bud Powell. Silver was discovered in the Sundown Club in Hartford, Connecticut. in 1950 by saxophonist Stan Getz. Getz was playing at the club with Silver’s trio backing him up. Getz liked Silver’s band and brought them on the road, eventually recording three of Silver’s compositions. It was with Getz that Silver made his recording debut.
I got me some horses to ride on to ride on
They say that your demons can't go there
So I got me some horses to ride on to ride on
as long as your army keeps perfectly still
And maybe I'll find me a sailor a tailor
and maybe together we'll make mother well
So I got me some horses to ride on to ride on
as long as your army keeps perfectly still
You showed me the meadow and Milkwood and Silkwood
and you would if I would but you never would
so I chased down your posies your pansies in my hosies
then opened my hands and they were empty then
Off with superfly sniffing a Sharpie pen
Honey it's Bill and Ben
Off with superfly counting your bees
oh me honey like one two three
The camera is rolling
It's easy like one two three
And if there is a way to find you
I will find you
but will you find me if Neil
makes me a tree an afro a pharaoh
I can't go you said so
and threads that are golden don't break easily
So I got me some horses to ride on to ride on
They say that your demons can't go there
So I got me some horses to ride on to ride on
as long as your army keeps perfectly still
keeps perfectly still
keeps perfectly still
The boy was in the hallway drinking a glass of tea
From the other end of the hallway a rhythm was generating
Another boy was sliding up the hallway
He merged perfectly with the hallway,
He merged perfectly, the mirror in the hallway
The boy looked at Johnny, Johnny wanted to run,
but the movie kept moving as planned
The boy took Johnny, he pushed him against the locker,
He drove it in, he drove it home, he drove it deep in Johnny
The boy disappeared, Johnny fell on his knees,
started crashing his head against the locker,
started crashing his head against the locker,
started laughing hysterically
When suddenly Johnny gets the feeling he's being surrounded by
horses, horses, horses, horses
coming in in all directions
white shining silver studs with their nose in flames,
He saw horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses.
Do you know how to pony like bony maroney
Do you know how to twist, well it goes like this, it goes like this
Baby mash potato, do the alligator, do the alligator
And you twist the twister like your baby sister
I want your baby sister, give me your baby sister, dig your baby sister
Rise up on her knees, do the sweet pea, do the sweet pee pee,
Roll down on her back, got to lose control, got to lose control,
Got to lose control and then you take control,
Then you're rolled down on your back and you like it like that,
Like it like that, like it like that, like it like that,
Then you do the watusi, yeah do the watusi
Life is filled with holes, Johnny's laying there, his sperm coffin
Angel looks down at him and says, "Oh, pretty boy,
Can't you show me nothing but surrender?"
Johnny gets up, takes off his leather jacket,
Taped to his chest there's the answer,
You got pen knives and jack knives and
Switchblades preferred, switchblades preferred
Then he cries, then he screams, saying
Life is full of pain, I'm cruisin' through my brain
And I fill my nose with snow and go Rimbaud,
Go Rimbaud, go Rimbaud,
And go Johnny go, and do the watusi, oh do the watusi
There's a little place, a place called space
It's a pretty little place, it's across the tracks,
Across the tracks and the name of the place is you like it like that,
You like it like that, you like it like that, you like it like that,
And the name of the band is the
Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes,
Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes
Baby calm down, better calm down,
In the night, in the eye of the forest
There's a mare black and shining with yellow hair,
I put my fingers through her silken hair and found a stair,
I didn't waste time, I just walked right up and saw that
up there -- there is a sea
up there -- there is a sea
up there -- there is a sea
the sea's the possibility
There is no land but the land
(up there is just a sea of possibilities)
There is no sea but the sea
(up there is a wall of possibilities)
There is no keeper but the key
(up there there are several walls of possibilities)
Except for one who seizes possibilities, one who seizes possibilities.
(up there)
I seize the first possibility, is the sea around me
I was standing there with my legs spread like a sailor
(in a sea of possibilities) I felt his hand on my knee
(on the screen)
And I looked at Johnny and handed him a branch of cold flame
(in the heart of man)
The waves were coming in like Arabian stallions
Gradually lapping into sea horses
He picked up the blade and he pressed it against his smooth throat
(the spoon)
And let it deep in
(the veins)
Dip in to the sea, to the sea of possibilities
It started hardening
Dip in to the sea, to the sea of possibilities
It started hardening in my hand
And I felt the arrows of desire
I put my hand inside his cranium, oh we had such a brainiac-amour
But no more, no more, I gotta move from my mind to the area
(go Rimbaud go Rimbaud go Rimbaud)
And go Johnny go and do the watusi,
Yeah do the watusi, do the watusi ...
Shined open coiled snakes white and shiny twirling and encircling
Our lives are now entwined, we will fall yes we're together twining
Your nerves, your mane of the black shining horse
And my fingers all entwined through the air,
I could feel it, it was the hair going through my fingers,
(I feel it I feel it I feel it I feel it)
The hairs were like wires going through my body
I I that's how I
that's how I
I died
(at that Tower of Babel they knew what they were after)
(they knew what they were after)
[Everything on the current] moved up
I tried to stop it, but it was too warm, too unbelievably smooth,
Like playing in the sea, in the sea of possibility, the possibility
Was a blade, a shiny blade, I hold the key to the sea of possibilities
There's no land but the land
looked at my hands, and there's a red stream
that went streaming through the sands like fingers,
like arteries, like fingers
(how much fits between the eyes of a horse?)
He lay, pressing it against his throat (your eyes)
He opened his throat (your eyes)
His vocal chords started shooting like (of a horse) mad pituitary glands
The scream he made (and my heart) was so high (my heart) pitched that nobody heard,
No one heard that cry,
No one heard (Johnny) the butterfly flapping in his throat,
(His fingers)
Nobody heard, he was on that bed, it was like a sea of jelly,
And so he seized the first
(his vocal chords shot up)
(possibility)
(like mad pituitary glands)
It was a black tube, he felt himself disintegrate
(there is nothing happening at all)
and go inside the black tube, so when he looked out into the steep
saw this sweet young thing (Fender one)
Humping on the parking meter, leaning on the parking meter
In the sheets
there was a man
dancing around
to the simple
Rock & roll
I don't wanna hold you hostage
I wanna set you free
If I could I'd pay your ransom
And give your eyes to see
You know my love, it will follow
If you only follow me
Your eyes will open up so easily
I don't wanna make you suffer
Or fill you up with shame
What I want is to protect you
Give you shelter from the rain
If you take my hand and maybe
Even take my name
We won't have anyone else left to blame
See how the horses run
Round the track
Until the winner come
Wait for the sound of his gun
And then the horses run
I guess I was only dreaming
I'm here all on my own
I remember how you left me
Homeless in my home
But you said I had it coming
'Cause I've always done you wrong
But I was finding out where I belong
See how the horses run
Round the track
Until the winner come
Wait for the sound of his gun
And then the horses run
See how the horses run
Round the track
Until the winner come
Wait for the sound of his gun
Hold on to what you believe
Youç£e more than they can perceive
Hold out - my angel Iç£ sure that youç£l see better days
Iç£l be here whenever you need to unwind
Come see me and I hope that you will find that itç£ not so bad
Cause everything will soon fall into place
Sometimes it may take some time until you finally rise and shine
If you learn to wait youç£e only hours away
Sometimes it may take some time
But in the end youç£l be alright
This is just a phase
Youç£e only hours away
Hey you - itç£ not too late Itç£ okay - youç£e on your way
Iç£l be right by your side
Wonç£ let life pass you by
And if you should ever need more time I promise that you can have all of mine
So donç£ be sad, cause everything will soon fall into place
Sometimes it may take some time
But I know things will turn out right
And youç£e not too late
Youç£e only hours away
And everybody gets a second chance
Another song to dance
So keep your faith
Cause time has itç£ own strange way (has itç£ own way)
Yeah, everybody gets a second chance
Another song to dance
Iç£ proud of everything you do
Youç£e only hours away
Sometimes it may take some time
There ainç£ no need to feel resigned
If you keep your grace
From a phone booth in Cheyenne
I made a promise to Diane
No more rodeos
I'd gone my last go 'round
The same promise that I made
In San Antone and Santa Fe
But tonight I saddled up
And let her down
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
And I'll lose more than I'm gonna win someday
Wild horses just stay wild
And her heart is all I break
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
She'll watch me drive around her block
Gettin' courage up to stop
To make her one more promise
That I can't keep
The way I love the rodeo
I guess I should let her go
Before I hurt her more
Than she loves me
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
And I'll lose more than I'm gonna win someday
Wild horses just stay wild
And her heart is all I break
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
Wild horses keep draggin' me away
And I'll lose more than I'm gonna win someday
Wild horses just stay wild
And her heart is all I break
In my heart,
if that is where one feels,
I surely feel
your head lying back sending peals
of laughter to ring a bell,
the bell I ring to call you here to me.
Telephone, telephone
please bring me news when I'm alone.
If it can be done I would be very grateful.
Is that a horse,
whose footsteps I hear approaching,
on the run from some strange unknown danger,
or just my heart beating so noisily?
One never really knows until it's far too late to tell.
It's the sun I wait for in the morning,
and the moon I long to see setting in the evening.
When night lies ahead,
and day is through,
(M. Doughty)
14,000 times a second
The speaker moons
Magnitism pushes
the impulse through
But I can't keep that speed
I can't generate that frequency
What the sound pressure level means
Wants to randomize electrons--I can't read
And you're still not dancing
She came pushing sixteen
She came pushing sixteen horses
I saw her and thought of her and thought of her
And I thought I heard a doorbell tone
And I thought I saw thought I saw and thought I saw
You watching from the lawn
She went over bridges like the river was a dream dream
Over bridges like the river was a dream dream
She came pushing sixteen
She came pushing sixteen horses
Two rings two rings two rings clamp down
Quit it
Two rings two rings two rings clamp down
Quit it
Two rings two rings two rings clamp down
Quit it
Two rings two rings two rings clamp down
Quit it
She came pushing sixteen
She came pushing sixteen
She came pushing sixteen

To ride on to ride on
How many gon ride with me (got me some horses to ride)
Got me some horses
To ride on to ride on
Got me some horses
To ride on to ride on
How many gon ride with me (got me some horses to ride)
Got me some horses
To ride on to ride on
[Verse 1:]
I got myself a stable
Ready, willing and able
To do whatever it takes
To keep some food upon my table
Natural born hustlers, hustlers
Mafia motherfuckers
Down ass niggas
Ready to ride on you bustas
Tax us, yuko sax, pistol grips
We boom boom that
We ain't playin
You know what we got
And yo, you know where we at
And we ain't running from jack, shit
This ones I gotta in the sound and ya dead
So I'm a hold em by the reins
To the end of my reign
And teach my son
How to ride these thangs
By the moves of the game
Which ain't never gon change
And raise me a full grown mafia ass man
Or get stuck in
Were coming round the bend
And how many ridin with when I be in
I W I inna Gizza O double G
Tryna teach
Shoulda put us left two dollars on me
Cause I
[Chorus x2]
Don't grab mac 10s 11 9s and ks
And 4'5s revolvers from the cowboy days
Look here buddy
It's gonna get ugly on this one
So don't weigh up the gun
If you're ain't ready to ride son
See, I mean this lead is gonna burn
And wounds gonna bleed
So don't mount up
Once you straddle this steed
Cause it's all out warfare
And I don't care
About busting fly's pistol
To take life from here
Cause once the smoke is clear
I'll be still standing here
With my blunt on my lip
And my gun on my hip
And if you wanna go on?
Then I'll bust your lip
Your nose is swollen, your eyes
And then I empty the clip
And were gone saddle up
Hit em up, move'em out
Me and my minnie mae members
Hit it back to dirty south
And this battle is one
But the war has just begun
Last time I'm came gunned
And this time I'm dropping bombs
Hiroshima...
[Chorus x2]
Ain't it a perfect picture
But it was far from pretty
It mostly exposed
The underground of my city
You the known d pimps and G's
Prostitutes and thieves
All of the cut throats
And very few was unt-es
Got me a couple of horses
But not just any horse
This bitch yo won d derby
So triple crowned it early
Living up to expectation
Help put this mob on the nation
A couple of lemons gon knock it
But this fat full profit
So stop your idol gossip
I'll beat your fuckin ass
Y'all just some damn losers
Don't want to cross ma path
My dues been overpaid
I'm fallin in the rage
Stepped on this front page
Shining on similar stage
Progress is step by step
And making a name for myself
Thaistik gon do it solid
Cuttin d loss on my breath
Wanna know what Thaistik do
When am feeling sad and blue
Got a couple of horses to ride on
How bout you?
[Chorus x2]
No matter how many situations
Rise against me
I got my mafia posse ridin with me
We cause mass destruction
Like Osama binny
Cause alls on d line
O mafia minnie
I'm like parker lose, yo
And I can't lose
I got to much at stake
Fly got a job to do
And the truth is out
I feel obliged to know
That I got strong stallions
To ride on young buck
And wild full blooded thoroughbreds
And this time I'm racin
For the bacon and the bread
The head and the ass
The cap and the gown
And the most coveted prize
The triplin m-crown
I found me some ground
And I'm staking fly claim
Everything that I got
Was earned on fly's name
I'll take the fortune
Fly motherfuck the fame
As long as I keep studs
Males and castles to ride mane
Yo I
I woke up this morning with a bump on my head
An empty corral and a stone cold bed
Well all of my livestock was nowhere in sight
She took all of my horses when she left me last night
She cut me off at the roots when she took my best boots
I'm hung-over and barefoot and long
You know I can't blame her try as I might
She took all of my horses when she left me last night
She rode off by moonlight and cut through the fences
Looks like somebody's done come to her senses
You know I can't blame her try as I might
She took all of my horses when she left me last night
She rode off by moonlight and cut through the fences
Looks like somebody's done come to her senses
You know I can't blame her try as I might
She took all of my horses when she left me last night
Too much time on the range and too much time the bar
She warned me and warned me but I took it to far
The whiskey was wrong and the woman
She took all of my horses when she left me last night
The boy was in the hallway drinking a glass of tea
On the other end of the hallway a rhythm was generating
Now the boy was sliding up the hallway
He merged perfectly with the hallway,
He merged perfectly, in the mirro,r in the hallway
The boy looked at Johnny, Johnny wanted to run,
but the movie kept moving as planned
The boy took Johnny, he pushed him against the locker,
He drove it in, he drove it home, he drove it deep in
Johnny
The boy disappeared, Johnny's on his knees,
started crashing his head against the locker,
started crashing his head against the locker,
started laughing hysterically.
When suddenly Johnny gets a feeling ,he's being
surrounded by
horses, horses, horses, horses
coming in in all directions
white, shining, silver, studs with their nose in flames,
He saw horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses,
I'd be riding horses if they let me
Sleep outside at night and not take fright
I would ride the reigns and never worry
I would disappear into the night
Everybody needs an angel
But here's that devil by my side
Deaths head ring upon his finger
Poor boy hanging on the light
They'll be drawing straws inside the courtroom
As the suns twilight turns to black
Torches burn into the sad eyes
On the wrong side of the track
Make those horses jump through hoops of flames
They won't kick and they won't scream
Let the good lord do the driving
Poor boy sinking in the stream
I can smell the campfires burning
But I'll go out walking on my own
By day and night the world keeps turning
Caedite eos! Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius
Per signum crucis
Millions of annihilated begins
Millions of death sentences
Laus tibi!
Per signum crucis
Greatest crimes of this world
Greatest bloody battles
Laus tibi!
Per signum crucis!
Flowing river of blood
Desecrated bodies in thy name!
Laus tibi!
You they call the redeemer
Agnus Dei
You they call the salvator
Agnus Dei
You they call the son of the highest
Agnus Dei
You they call the infinitive love
Agnus Dei
Thine is the holy heart which knows no mercy
Tu Rex Gloriae!
Blodless sacrifices
In your honor flesh and blood consumed
Myths from generations passed
All this because;
Tu Rex Gloriae!
Children of killers breed
Crowds for ages fed with lies
Arise beyond ye supreme being
Arise above ye supreme being
And confess the truth once again
And say no once again!
Every truth is a torn for my temple
Every word flows with bloody sweat
Thy believers fanatic killers
Thy believers burning on stakes
Thy believers decapitating in thy name
Thy believers raping and drinking blood in the name of cross
Thy believers mass murderers
Thy believers greatest masters
For thy name they sacrifice nations
For thy name they sacrifice their families
Bloody lord
Thou is the betrothed of Satan!
It is I the heretic who chooses truth and wants:
Last night I dreamed of horses
Coming for my soul
Taking me to places
I wasn't ready yet to go
Last night I dreamed of silence
The silence that I keep
All the things I could've said
Well, they stole away my sleep
I need to remember
The horses will come
I need to remember
How quickly they run
I want no regrets
When the horses come for me
I cannot forget
That the horses come for me
Last night I dreamed You with me
You put Your finger to my lips
And You told me to be brave now
I felt like I'd been kissed
I need to remember
You're always with me
I need to remember
You're the reason I breathe
CHORUS
Last night I woke up crying
But I knew I'd be alright
CHORUS
If I told you a secret
Would you understand?
Could you promise that youd keep it?
Keep it in your hand
I dont know
Where we go from here
We keep spinning round in circles
Are we going nowhere?
I cant see the future
Are we already there?
I wanna laugh like I used to
Cry like I could with you
I dont know where
We go from here
Come lay down beside me
And Ill tell you a story
Lay your head upon your pillow
Look outside your window
Ill be the stars
Ill be the stars
Weve had a lot of weather
You and me
Nothing is forever
The winds are calling me
You know I wanna know what peace is
But I pulled it all to pieces
Now we need all the kings horses
You know I wanna know what peace is
But I pulled it all to pieces
Now we need all the kings horses
Come lay down beside me
And Ill tell you a story
Lay your head upon your pillow
Look outside your window
If were saying goodbye
Ill see you in the night sky
Ill be the stars
Ill be the stars
Get on your knees
And I thought you can leave it all in your mind (in it)
All in your mind (in it)
Crawl in the backseat old friend
It is really all in your mind (in it)
All in your mind (should I)
So tired of living like a kite, kite, kite, kite
Look at all the trees in the light
They are growing all in your mind (in it)
All in your mind (in it)
Look at all the leaves in the fire
They are burning all in your mind (in
All in your mind (should I)
I met Willie by the still, he was brewin' a batch
He had a short cigar and one last match
He was tellin' me 'bout his latest troubles with the government
He had child support and alimony
He was looking depressed and kinda lonely
Just tryin' to figure out where all his hard-earned money went
"Well, I'll be go to Hell", he said
"I got nothing but a Ford and a barn full of hay
If it weren't for horses and divorces
I'd be a lot better off today"
Well, I said, "Willie, that sounds like a song"
He said, "Son, you know you may not be all wrong
Could you give me a little piece of the pie if you make it a hit?
I got a '51 Ford I'd like to fix up, I got two sick ponies and one sick pup
And my third wife's coming today to take my TV set"
"Well I'll be go to Hell", he said
If it weren't for horses and divorces
I'd be a lot better off today"
Well, God bless poor old Willie McCann
You know he's always been a good hard working man
He bought me a beer last night down at the 'Lost and Found'
He said, "Horses and women are fine sure 'nuff
But if you don't treat 'em right things are gonna get rough
Believe me, I've got these four year marriages down"
"Well I'll be go to Hell," he said
"I got nothing but a Ford and a barn full of hay
If it weren't for horses and divorces
I'd have a lot more money and less gray hair
I might even be a millionaire
If it weren't for horses and divorces
Help is not needed for my back trouble
You drag out of me some messed up colours
Yeah
I own all of my own voices
I own all of my own voices
It doesn? t matter who you are, this is it
There? s a simple life the moment you decide
Raggy bones meet a butchered heart, this is it
There? s a simple life the moment you decide
Brains and trains find it hard to start, this is it
There? s a simple life the moment you decide
Now i? m caught up in furious spell inside
Of all i want to keep what keeps on leavin?
I own all of my own voices
I own all of my own voices
It doesn? t matter who you are, this is it
There? s a simple life the moment you decide
Raggy bones meet a butchered heart, this is it
There? s a simple life the moment you decide
Brains and trains find it hard to start, this is it
There? s a simple life the moment you decide
It doesn? t matter who you are, this is it
There? s a simple life the moment you decide
Raggy bones meet a butchered heart, this is it
HORSES
Said you didn't need no horses on the ground
No satellite to trace his little head
I stopped for a drink then i left without a sound
But the stories they followed me
Someone stole the right words
To try and frighten me
Come down i am sure, sure of who i am
'cause the chorus is my sword
And the lighting's in my hair
The seasons i recall
Are the ones that i have shared
There's violence in my heart
And i guess i had.
Through the milano storms and the blossoms through the week
I saw this battle born, i was holding you in the street
Ended by my house, 'cause a red light's warm indeed
And these men about will be shouting out to me
'cause i want to be high
Yes i want to be bright
Oh there's something on my sleeve
Won't ascribe, won't abide
By the words that you might keep
And if what you say
'cause it might be true i've got to go
Go and find you, i'll wait for you this time
Go and find you, it's hard to let it slide
You sang, you sang
With your bitter armies behind your eyes
On my shoulder on my keychain
With your lightning sticks and your surprise
I've known this, yes i've known this
That the devil was tired but sure to begin
Wanted to be sure of these things
Thought you might be strong
Didn't know what the seasons would bring
If i had stolen south, i'd call it honest and say
And along with the chorus line i sang as you went away
What's outside your . don't let the rain in
Said you wanted more than stories in the sand
No heavy bellied caution around your neck
You loaded up the sick and cut your mother's hand
Scraped and washed her clean
Someone stole the songbird
And tore it's book from me
Come down i am sure, sure of who i am
'cause the chorus is my sword
And the lighting's in my hair
The seasons i recall
Are the ones that i have shared
There's violence in my heart
I'd be riding horses if they'd let me
Sleep outside at night and not take fright
I would ride the range and never worry
I would disappear into the night
Everybody needs an angel
But here's that devil by my side
A death's head ring upon his finger
Poor boy hanging on the light
They'll be drawing straws inside the courtroom
As the sudden twilight turns to black
And torches burn into the sad eyes
On the wrong side of the track
Make those horses jump through hoops of flame
They won't kick and they won't scream
Let the good Lord do the driving
While poor boy sinks in the stream
Well, I can smell the campfires burning
But I'll go out walking on my own
By day and night the world keeps turning
Frightened people hiding in their homes
Everybody needs his angel
But here's that devil by my side
A death's head ring upon his finger
Poor boy hanging on the light
And everybody needs an angel
But here's that devil by my side
A death's head ring upon his finger
